The concept of co-prime numbers plays an integral role in mathematics and is used in real life as well. In order to solve the mathematical equations with perfection it is necessary for the kids to know and learn more about the concept in detail. So, let's understand this in detail in today's article.
Co-prime numbers are two or more numbers that share no common factors other than 1.
For example, 5 and 7 are co-prime numbers. Sometimes we get confused whether co-prime numbers are always prime numbers. it can be 2 composite numbers also
Example - 4 and 9
This concept is used in the calculations of HCF/LCM, rational numbers and divisibility problems.
Few Examples are
(5,7),
(8,15),
(14,15),
(17,19) etc
1. List the factors of the first number.
2. List the factors of the second number.
3. Identify all the common factors.
4. If 1 is the only common factor then it is a co-prime number.
Example1: Are 2 and 15 co-prime numbers?
Factors of 2 are 1, 2.
Factors of 15 are 1,3,5,15.
The only common factor is 1.
Therefore, 2 and 15 are co-prime.
Example 2: Are 18 and 25 co-prime numbers?
Factors of 18 are 1, 2,3,6,9,18
Factors of 25 are 1,5,15.
The only common factor is 1.
Therefore, 18 and 25 are co-prime.
Example3: Are 16 and 27 co-prime numbers?
Factors of 16 are 1, 2,4,8,16
Factors of 27 are 1,3,9,27
The only common factor is 1.
Therefore, 16 and 27 are co-prime.
Tips and Tricks:
Any two prime numbers are always co-prime.
Any two consecutive numbers are always co-prime.
Two even numbers are co-prime
It needs two numbers to form co-prime
